DAY 2 - LAKE GARDA

Arrival with intercontinental flight into Milan airport. Transfer to your hotel.
In the afternoon walking tour of the city with a local guide, discover the wonderful Duomo, a much-loved symbol of the city and the best example of Northern Gothic in Italy, complete the visit with the view from the roof (on a clear day you can see the Italian Alps).
Then visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Santa Maria delle Grazie to admire “The Last Supper”, Da Vinci's masterpiece mural that depicts Jesus's last meal with his disciples.

Its time to depart for the first important lake of our lakes tour, Lake Garda. In the morning arrive in Desenzano, walk through Malvezzi Square and its historical center street to see the Cathedral of S. Maria Maddalena where “The Last Supper” is preserved, a noted work of Tiepolo (1738). Visit the Roman Villae, it is the most important example in Northern Italy of the great ancient villae. Then arrive in Sirmione, a charming city located on a small peninsula, here, explore the Scaligero Fortress and visit the archaeological site of the Catullo Caves surrounded by a historic olive grove consisting of more than 1,500 plants, preserved inside the remains of one of the largest residential villas of northern Italy.
In the evening depart to Lake Como, dinner and overnight in Tremezzo or nearby (Menaggio or Cernobbio).

After breakfast, discover Como Lake and spend all day in this beautiful landscape.
The tour begins with the visit of Menaggio, explore its lovely streets enjoying a relaxing time in these enchanting places. Sail to Bellagio, located on a peninsula that divides the two arms of the lake, with its beautiful and typical terraced buildings. Then move on to Lenno and visit the beautiful Villa Balbianello, one of the most beautiful and romantic mansions on Lake Como, overlooking a beautiful wooded headland, on the extreme tip of Dosso Lavedo, which dips into the lake forming a small peninsula.
Travel along the arm of the lake to the south to reach Como, the silk city, where you can explore the historic center and the Duomo.
Dinner and Overnight in Tremezzo or nearby (Menaggio or Cernobbio).

After breakfast before leaving Lake Como, visit Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, a place of rare beauty: here, nature and human masterpieces coexist harmoniously in 70,000 square meters of gardens and museum facilities.
Then its time to go outside Italy and precisely, to Switzerland. Depart to Lugano, the most popular Italian city of Switzerland, on the shores of lake of the same name, visit the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, with its famous crucifix and its impressive pipe organ, and walk through the elegant shopping street, Via Nassa. Another city, Ascona, situated 196 meters above sea level on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, is famous for being a picturesque village and for the Mediterranean style lakeside, with its sidewalk cafes and its mild climate.
Then leave Switzerland and return to Italy, departing for Stresa where we have dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, arrive in Verbania to visit Villa Taranto, a wonderful botanical garden of 16 hectares, where we find all kinds of plants and trees from all over the world. Then reach Lake Orta and and precisely Orta San Giulio one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Here, time seems to stand still and Fellini's movie characters seem to appear around every corner. Enjoy a wonderful cruise through the beauties of the lake including the only and very picturesque island (San Giulio).
Rest of day at leisure.
Dinner and Overnight in Stresa.

This day is completely dedicated to the Borromean Islands, a group of three small islands located in the western arm of the lake. Their name derives from the Borromeo family, which started acquiring them in the 16th century and still owns the majority of them today.
The boat tour starts with Isola Bella which was originally a largely barren rock, where you can now visit the Borromean Palace with the beautiful gardens and its picture gallery. At lunch time, you arrive in Isola dei Pescatori, or Isola Superiore, which is now the only inhabited island in the archipelago. It has a fishing village with narrow streets and the charm of a landscape has been well preserved over time.
In the afternoon, explore the largest of the three islands, Isola Madre. It is noted for its gardens, in perfect English style and for its palace, full of masterpieces and paintings.
Dinner and Overnight in Stresa.

After breakfast depart to Angera by boat to visit the Rocca d'Angera a castle that before 1227 belonged to the Della Torre family, who lost the possession to the Visconti family after the Battle of Desio. In 1449, it passed into the ownership of the Borromeo family. It is best known for it’s Hall of Justice depicting the victory of Ottone Visconti at the Battle of Desio.
The castle also contains a Doll Museum with over a thousand dolls made between the 18th century and the present day.
In the afternoon, you can discover the delights that this beautiful land offers. The area between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta is a hilly area covered by vineyards, renowned for the production of a fine Piedmont wines like Ghemme, Sizzano, Fara or Boca. Visit a typical wine cellar and taste a selection of the best wines and local products, cheeses and various types of salami.
The old part of the little town of Ghemme is worth a visit. Its called Ricetto, a word that is evocative of the Middle Ages and refers to a group of fortified houses that were originally built between the 11th and the 15th centuries.

After breakfast, pick up and transfer from hotel in Stresa to Milan International Airport. Departure.
